Tim McCarver Apologizes For Critical Comments About Mets Ownership

Prior to the start of the 2011 MLB season, Fox Sports analyst Tim McCarver felt the Wilpon family should sell the New York Mets and added it would be “very difficult to broadcast under those circumstances,” in reference to the SNY crew of Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling.

McCarver has since apologized to Darling for his critical comments about the Mets organization and broadcast team.

“You know what’s nice about it I saw Timmy a couple of weeks ago and he apologized,” Darling told the New York Post. “So, I don’t think he wanted to put us behind the 8-ball certainly. I don’t find I have to tip-toe around anything, My job is to talk about how the Mets are playing great or how they can play better. And when facts come in that change the news part of the broadcast, like we saw on Sunday with the Mets-Phillies game, we become news reporters. And when there is news, I like to think about Gary Cohen as our (Walter) Cronkite. It’s up to him to really give the facts because any editorializing by us on someone’s personal finances is in bad form. I think it’s rude, personally.”

If I had a nickel for every person McCarver has offended during his broadcast career, I would have enough money to buy the Mets.
