Based on Nielsen national fast program ratings NBC’s “Today” show has claimed a rare win in both total viewers and the younger demo as the show originated from Olympic Park in Sochi, Russia. The last time “Today” won the total viewer measurement was the second week of the London Summer Olympics, the week of August, 6 2012. By the following week, August 13, 2012, ABC’s “Good Morning America” was back on top.
- Week of Feb. 10, 2014 – Total Viewers / A25-54 demo
NBC: 6,221,000 / 2,545,000
ABC: 6,010,000 / 2,360,000
“Today” topped “GMA” by 211,000 viewers (+4%) and 185,000 in the demo (+8%). The gap during the first week of the Vancouver games saw “Today” leading “GMA” by 1.884 million viewers and 1.011 million in the demo. In February, 2010, “Today” was still the dominant morning broadcast.
As we reported last week, “GMA” came in first last Tuesday, the first time since Nielsen began keeping electronic data records (1991) that a non-Olympics rights holder has won in the morning.
This is preliminary fast national data. Final numbers will be released on Friday.
