‘Today’ Wallops ‘Nightly’ on the Softball Field

NBC’s “Today” show staff delivered a 14-3 softball beat-down of their evening coworkers at “Nightly News” Monday evening. Is this really same “Today” defense that lost a 14-13 heartbreaker to CBS’ “Early Show” in June??

The “Nightly” team’s struggles in big game situations have been well documented on this blog. TVNewser was there when Brian Williams and his NBCers were taken down 12-2 last Summer by Jon Stewart and “The Daily Show” staff. (Full game story and post-game presser here.)

On Monday, Williams, who was in the line-up for the NBC showdown, was clearly disappointed with the “Today” show anchors who didn’t make it out. Williams’ colleagues mocked his pregame talk on Tuesday morning:

Afterward, Page Six reports that third-baseman and good sport Williams treated the teams to some post-game drinks.
