USAT’s Bianco On ‘Today:’ “They Seem To Be Back On Their Game”

In USA Today, Robert Bianco raves about Today’s Olympic coverage and says “there’s no doubt that the morning gold standard is still set by NBC’s Today trio: Katie Couric, Matt Lauer and Al Roker.”

He writes: “Would the show stay the same with another anchor in Couric’s place? Perhaps. But before the Katie-haters start campaigning, remember that she’s the driving force at Today. She does the heavy lifting, which is what allows Lauer and Roker to seem lighter and more relaxed.”

Together, they seem to be back on their game, and that accomplishment should not be easily dismissed. Wednesday, Lauer thanked medal-contending skater Johnny Weir for stopping by in the middle of the competition, a distraction athletes usually avoid. ‘It’s really an honor to be on the Today show,’ Weir answered.

There are people who should keep that in mind.”
