Watts to Start Black News Network

watts_5-27.jpgThe New York Post’s Don Kaplan reports that former congressman and current cable news commentator J.C. Watts is leading a push to launch the Black Television News Channel.

“I’m not so sure that you see anything on CNN or Fox News that specifically targets the African American community,” Watts said.

The network will be an all-news channel aimed at African Americans, and is set to launch in early 2009. It also already has agreements with Comcast cable in several cities like Philadelphia, Chicago and Detroit.

Although he would not say who is helping bankroll the project, Watts described them as, “two cable industry vets.”
