White House Changes Email Rules After Fox News Questioned Tactics

Garrett_8.17.jpgPolitico’s Mike Allen reports the White House is changing its email sign-up procedures after some recipients of a healthcare email complained that they had not asked to receive the updates.

Last Thursday at the daily briefing, FNC White House correspondent Major Garrett had a contentious back-and-forth with press secretary Robert Gibbs about it.

And over the next few days, some of the email recipients appeared on Fox News.

This afternoon on “Studio B” Garrett explained the changes saying, “the White House did some rather significant sleuthing” this weekend. Garrett explained that techs at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. believe “third parties have been dumping entire email lists on to their server” which helps explain why some people who did not request the emails got them.
