“Glenn is recuperating well and is in good spirits,” WCAU news director Chris Blackman said. “He feels fortunate that he recognized the signs of potential trouble. We’re all keeping him in our thoughts and wish him a speedy recovery.”
As Schwartz spends the next several weeks recuperating, the NBC station plans to run a series of special segments about heart health.
Schwartz, whose family has a history of heart disease, visited a doctor on Monday after feeling pressure in his chest while swimming over the weekend.
Before going into surgery this morning, he tweeted “99% of major artery blocked.”
“I want people to know that they are responsible for understanding their own bodies and their family history,” Schwartz said in an interview following his surgery.
Meteorologist Sheena Parveen is filling in for Schwartz on WCAU’s 4, 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts.
