Hobby has anchored the station’s evening newscasts alongside Ben Roberts for more than 20 years. In her final broadcast, she said her new job will keep her “very busy behind the camera” (video after the jump).

Rick Williams, who has been news director at WALB for 22 years, will become vice president and general manager of WLOX on January 14.

“Rick’s industry knowledge and participation in the Raycom Leadership Class has prepared him for this expanded role within Raycom as the next leader for WLOX,” Raycom SVP of Television Leon Long said in a statement. “I am most impressed with his passion and leadership skills and look forward to working with him at this important station to our company. ”

Williams replaces David Vincent, who will retire this month after 35 years at WLOX.

Dawn Hobby will step into the news director role at WALB. She is currently the assistant news director and the anchor of the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts. continued…

“We’re excited about the opportunity to bring more local content to the Southwest Georgia community,” said WFXL assistant news director Jenna McWilliams. “‘Good Day’ now has more time to share with the viewers just what’s going on in our own backyards.”

WFXL’s morning team includes anchor January Keaton, meteorologist Chris Nisinger, and reporter-producer Melanie Kendall.

“I’m devastated by it,” station manager Deborah Gay told the Albany Herald this week, saying that everyone at the WFXL is in a state of shock. “Terry was a great person to work with. I’m sorry this has happened.”

According to the Herald, Graham died “after a long illness.” After working for many years as an anchor and news director with the Albany, GA station, Graham left three months ago.

Smith joined WFXL in 2009 and had been working as a reporter for the Fox-affiliate, which is one of two local news stations in Albany.

“Taking the job made me happy and sad,” Smith told the Albany Herald. “I was extremely happy about getting this promotion during Black History Month because I was kind of shocked it had never happened before. My frame of reference was always large metro areas that had black and Hispanic anchors.”

Smith was raised in Marietta, GA and earned her master’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland.

“I look at being the first black main news anchor in Albany as a personal responsibility,” she said. “I want to be the best reporter and news anchor I can be, but I also want to be a good role model, specifically for young black women.” continued…
