Beginning at 10:30 a.m., WABC, WCBS, WNBC, and WNYW cut into their regularly scheduled programming to bring live coverage of the shuttle’s entry into New York City. On a windy day in which news helicopters were grounded, there was a noticeable split in how the stations covered the event: WABC and WCBS had multiple reporters in the field and the stations highlighted their team coverage, while WNBC and WNYW relied more heavily on the personalities in their respective studios. KTLA Chopper Video: Texting Man Comes Face to Face with Bear

Los Angeles news helicopters were out in full force early this morning as police and animal rangers tried to track down a 600-pound bear who was roaming the city’s residential streets.  The bear was eventually contained in a backyard, but not before one unsuspecting man came face to face with the wild animal.

Tracking the bear’s movements throughout the morning, KTLA‘s news helicopter captured the chance encounter: the man was walking along an alleyway, texting, when he suddenly spotted the bear in front of him (video above). Read more

Set to spend at least the next dozen years in prison, former Gov. Rod Blagojevich appeared to savor his final moment in the spotlight on Wednesday evening as he held a public farewell that conveniently coincided with Chicago stations’ 5 o’clock newscasts.

Every major news station in Chicago brought live, uninterrupted coverage of Blagojevich’s sendoff, which lasted roughly 40 minutes.

Covering the event, anchors for every station commented on the circus-like atmosphere, but it was clear that their colleagues were making up a large percentage of the crowd, as news choppers hovered overhead. Read more
