KGW Captures Attack on KOIN Photographer

Local news crews were at a Portland courthouse, covering a fatal hit-and-run case, when a man who had just been released from jail began harassing the photographers from KGW and KOIN.

When the KOIN photographer decided to call 9-1-1, the man tried to stomp on his camera.  As KGW’s camera rolled, the KOIN photog scuffled with the man and eventually tackled him to the ground, holding him there until police arrived (video inside). Read more

Following Up on House Fire, KIII Reporter Discovers Animal Hoarding, Gets Caught in Middle of Fight

KIII reporter Kim Passoth got much more than she was expecting when she and a videographer went to a South Texas trailer park, following up on a family whose house was burned down a month ago.

While speaking with the owner of the property, Passoth discovered an animal hoarding situation on an adjacent property, and was caught in the middle of a heated argument between the owner and her uncle (video inside). Read more

Woman Involved in Murder Trial Attacks KBAK-KBFX News Crew with Her Minivan

A woman at the center of a love triangle that allegedly ended in murder attacked a KBAK-KBFX news crew this week as they were shooting video across the street from her home.

51-year-old Danny Mathis is accused of killing a man after he had sex with his ex-girlfriend, Chasidy Wilhite. A KBAK-KBFX crew was shooting outside of Wilhite’s house on Monday when she got into her minivan and drove into the station’s video equipment, knocking the tripod over and smashing the camera (video inside). Suspect Surrenders to WLBT Anchor After Stand-Off with Police

A man wanted by police for pulling a gun on his neighbor surrendered to WLBT anchor Bert Case on Friday, ending a massive manhunt.

After an altercation with his neighbor, 57-year-old Rodney Hill involved police in a stand-off at his home on Thursday, before slipping out of sight.

Case and WLBT videographer Jim Duncan were at Hill’s property on Friday covering the developing story when Hill emerged from hiding and approached them, wanting to tell his side of the story, according to WLBT. Read more

Earlier this week, WTVF aired a dramatic report on a man who crashed his truck through the window of a gas station convenience store in Nashville (video of the report is after the jump). The segment, complete with exclusive surveillance video of the crash, was reported on by WTVF’s Nick Beres, who talked to Poynter about the challenge of writing copy for dramatic video. Read more

Police Hunting Down Penn State Rioters Responsible for Destroying WTAJ News Van

The State College police department is working with the public to identify the protestors that destroyed a WTAJ news van during last month’s riot at Penn State.

On November 9th, thousands of Penn State students gathered in downtown State College to protest the firing of beloved football coach Joe Paterno.  The demonstration quickly escalated into a riot with angry students targeting the media for their presumed role in Paterno’s dismissal.

State College police have so far identified 33 people who caused havoc during the riot, according to WTAJ.  There is now a photo gallery on the State College city website with images of unruly protestors, including students who were responsible for tipping the WTAJ news van over.  The department is urging the public to come forward with tips and information about those involved.

Tower Defense and Aerospace Factory Suspends 17 After WJBK Investigation

The Tower Defense and Aerospace factory in Detroit has suspended 17 employees after a WJBK report uncovered evidence of factory workers drinking and smoking during lunch breaks.

Rob Wolchek, a reporter at the Fox O&O, obtained video of employees at the factory drinking and smoking what appears to be marijuana (watch above). Read more

KOB Reporter Gadi Schwartz Subpoenaed

Gadi Schwartz, a reporter at KOB in Albuquerque, has been issued a subpoena to reveal how he obtained dash-camera video that led to the firing of two police officers last year.

The video Schwartz obtained while reporting shows the takedown and subsequent arrest of Michael Schaefer in a Walmart parking lot. The video was the subject of an internal investigation within the Albuquerque Police Department, and as a result of the investigation, two police officers were fired and two more were disciplined.

An attorney for KOB told the Albuquerque Journal that Schwartz obtained the video “in the course of performing his duties as a reporter from a confidential source.”

KCBS Obtains Cell Phone Video of Black Friday Pepper Spray Attack

Authorities in Los Angeles are searching this morning for a woman who pepper sprayed a crowd of Black Friday shoppers at a Walmart in the Porter Ranch area. About 20 injuries were reported in the incident, which police are calling a case of “competitive shopping.”

CBS owned-and-operated KCBS has obtained cell phone video of the attack. Watch, above.

Penn State Rioters Destroy WTAJ News Van

Penn State students unleashed their anger over the firing of Joe Paterno on a WTAJ news van Wednesday night, at the edge of the university’s campus.

The van was parked at an intersection where students had congregated to protest Paterno’s dismissal, while a WTAJ news crew covered the upheaval.  Amid chants of “flip it, flip it,” a group of protestors tipped the van on its side, breaking windows and equipment. Read more
