What Are Local Stations Covering?

Viewers in Chico, CA, have two main sources of news. While there are four stations, Bonten Media owns and operates FOX affiliate KCVU and ABC affiliate KRCR while CBS affiliate KHSL and NBC affiliate KNVN are owned and/or operated by Gocom Broadcasting.

In fact, if you watch KHSL, you’re watching KNVN since the shows are simulcast as “Action News Now.”

Yesterday we showed you the newly wrapped live truck for Chico CBS and NBC affiliate KHSL-KNVN.

The station took a picture to show it off and made it the cover photo of its facebook page.

Today we learn, the station changed the picture. But we can still see the painted disabled parking sign peeking out from under the van. May we make a suggestion? If you’re not going to re park it, use photoshop to hide your scofflaw ways.

KHSL-KNVN Adds Alyssa Deitch as AM Anchor

deitch_croppedAlyssa Deitch made her debut this morning as co-anchor for Chico, CA, CBS and NBC affiliate KHSL-KNVN.

She joined anchor Megan McMann and weather anchor Cort Clopping on the 5:00 a.m. show.

Deitch comes to the Chico station from KCWY in Casper, WY, where she was an anchor and reporter.

Chico Station Unveils New Live Van…Illegally Parked

Proud owners that they are, the station posted a picture of it on the station facebook page with the heading, “Check out our new tricked out ride!!!!”

The station also made the van pic the cover photo on the page.

The van is parked in a handicapped space.

Brian Johnson Joins KHSL as Reporter

KHSL-KNVN has announced Brian Johnson has joined the Chico, CA, CBS and NBC affiliate as a reporter.

Johnson comes to KHSL from WTVY in Dothan, AL, where he worked as an anchor, reporter and producer.

According to the station, Johnson, “took the reporter position at KHSL to beef up his reporting resume.”

Bonten Media, Esteem Broadcasting Acquire Stations from Sainte Partners

Bonten Media and Esteem Broadcasting have announced the acquisition of television stations in two California markets, Chico-Redding and Eureka, from Sainte Partners.

The transaction, which is subject to approval by the FCC, includes KCVU, the Fox-affiliate in Chico, and KBVU, the Fox-affiliate in Eureka, which will both be acquired by Esteem. Bonten will provide services to these stations through shared service agreements, and will also acquire a number of low-powered stations in the two markets.

“We are excited to acquire Sainte’s fine FOX affiliates in these two markets,” Esteem president David Bailey said in a statement. “We are also looking forward to extending the successful SSA/JSA arrangements we have with Bonten Media Group.”

Kira Klapper Says Goodbye to KHSL-KNVN

After two years at KHSL-KNVN in Chico, Kira Klapper anchored her final broadcast yesterday.

Klapper anchors the weekday evening newscasts with Alan Marsden. She said on last night’s newscast that she is moving to San Francisco to be closer to her family.

“I keep thinking I’m crazy to move on,” Klapper said. “Why am I leaving such a good thing? But I feel like this is the time to take a risk, and hopefully someday it will pay off.” Video of her goodbye inside… Read more
