Jon K. Brent Promoted to Evening Anchor in Salinas

Just three months after joining KION-KCBA-KCOY-KKFX in Salinas, weekend anchor Jon K. Brent is being promoted to weekdays.

Brent will anchor the 6 p.m. newscast for KION-KCOY and the 10:30 p.m. newscast for KCBA-KKFX. He joins husband-and-wife anchor team Marc Cota-Robles and Jasmine Viel and meteorologist Norm Hoffman on the newscasts.

“In the few short months here, Jon has shown his talent in the anchor chair and we know this addition to weekdays will give us more flexibility and bench strength to the already strong trio of Jasmine, Marc and Norm,” news director Traciann Zeravica said in a statement.

Brent begins in his new role next week. The stations have already begun a search for a new weekend anchor.

Jon K. Brent Joins KION-KCBA-KCOY in Salinas

Jon K. Brent has joined KION-KCBA-KCOY in Salinas, CA.

Brent’s most recent job in the television business was an anchor and reporter at KSEE in Fresno, where he worked for six years before being laid off in 2010. Prior to that, he worked at KBTX in College Station and at KCRA in Sacramento.

Brent makes the move to Salinas from Fresno, where he remained after leaving KSEE.

“What a natural professional progression for me to move from my nativeĀ Central Valley to the Central Coast,” Brent told TVSpy. “The issues are similar in a state that faces tremendous difficulties. On the other hand these markets are destination locations for many tourists and aids that additional area of service that I’m looking forward to being a part of. Couldn’t be happier with the move!”
