Millage, who currently co-anchors the morning newscast, will move to evenings June 3.

“Meagan has been a fantastic addition to our news team. I am excited for her to join myself and Tom Hanson in the evenings and have such a strong South Dakota presence during KDLT News at 5, 6, and 10,” KDLT news director Paul Heinert said in a statement.

Millage replaces Jennifer Hudspeth, who is leaving KDLT to move to Minnesota.

Brandon Spinner

Spinner joined KDLT in March as the morning meteorologist. He replaces Cody Matz, who is leaving KDLT to join KMSP in Minneapolis.

“I am confident Brandon will do a great job moving to our evening newscasts. He is an extremely hard worker, and he will bring a lot of enthusiasm to KDLT News at 5, 6 and 10,” KDLT news director Paul Heinert said in a statement.

Before joining KDLT, Spinner worked at KQDS in Duluth, Minn.

Cody Matz

Matz comes from Sioux Falls, where he was the chief meteorologist for NBC affiliate KDLT. He has also worked as a web meteorologist for the MSU Geosciences website and as an intern at KPHO in Phoenix.

“As a Chief Meteorologist in the Midwest, Cody brings experience covering severe weather and forecasting in our region to the FOX 9 Weather Team. We’re thrilled to have Cody join us on-air and look forward to the excellent presence he’s established already online and via social media,” KMSP vice president and news director Bill Dallman said in a statement.

KELO

The station explained Kennecke’s move in a statement posted to their website saying, “KELO-TV is growing its Back to Business web page and business and consumer reporting. We feel the best way to do that is for Angela to take on a new role as Business editor.”

Bjelland comes to KELO from KEYC the Mankato, MN FOX and CBS affiliate where she was a multimedia journalist.

Lenz has spent the past six months working as an anchor-reporter for KSAX. He’s joining KDLT as the station’s weekend sports anchor.

“After careful consideration I have decided to take the next step in my career,” Lenz wrote in a message on his Facebook page, announcing the move.

He added that the job at KDLT will allow him to do what he loves: covering sports.

KSFY meteorologist Shawn Cable learned an important lesson this morning: don’t chug a bunch of Dr. Pepper before going on air. While delivering the forecast this morning, Cable let out a burp that halted his weather update (video above).

“Alright, that one’s gonna make the reel,” Cable said, trying to regain his composure as his co-anchor Nancy Naeve Brown lost it off camera.  “At least it didn’t come out the other end.”

KELO

As part of their conversion to high-definition — which the KELO website says is just “days away” — the station will switch from paper scripts to iPads, as well as broadcast from a new set, edit footage with new editing systems and debut a new graphics package.

The station is even changing the way anchors, who will be under the focus of the new HD cameras, apply their makeup. The station has arranged for the on-air talent to be trained using airbrushes ahead of the conversion.

“It’s a long process in changing all the different pieces of a newscast and look of the station that most viewers don’t pay too much attention to because they see it everyday,” KELO director of marketing and creative services Paul Farmer said.

Anchor Jennifer Hudspeth received a surprise on-air proposal from her boyfriend during KDLT‘s 10 p.m. newscast on Friday (video above).  Nate Johnson, Hudspeth’s boyfriend of three years, worked with the KDLT news team to concoct a fake story about a wedding proposal.  After Hudspeth introduced the segment, calling it “a good old fashioned love story,” her co-anchor Tom Hanson switched the story at the last minute and KDLT cut to a video of Johnson.

This week KSFY became the first station in the Sioux Falls market to broadcast its newscasts in HD, as the ABC-affiliate unveiled a brand-new, HD-optimized studio along with a sleek new logo.

“We’re so excited to be the first station in the area to deliver newscasts in an HD studio environment,” said Jim Berman, KSFY’s president and general manager. “This is a huge leap forward for KSFY that will set us apart, and we believe news viewers throughout the area are the big winners.”

The Hoak Media-owned station began upgrading its studio with HD equipment in January and then eventually gutted the entire space. For the past eight weeks, crews have been working to build the new set, which you can take a virtual tour of HERE.
