Despite Calls For Boycott, Salt Lake’s KSL The Only NBC Affiliate Not Carrying ‘Playboy Club’ Premiere

Despite a widespread push for NBC affiliates to boycott “The Playboy Club,” every NBC-affiliated station but one will carry tonight’s premiere of the “provocative” new show, a 1960s-era drama set in Chicago.

Advocacy groups have urged stations to boycott the show. One such group — Morality in the Media — has launched a website, closetheclubonnbc.com, which urges viewers to call their local NBC affiliate and “bombard them with messages that Americans don’t want pornography promoted on the public airways.”

Despite the push, only KSL — the NBC affiliate in Salt Lake City — will not carry the show’s premiere tonight. The show will air on KMYU, the market MyNetwork affiliate, instead.

“The intent of this show is to show characters at a certain time and a certain place trying to become something and being a family,” “Playboy Club” executive producer Ian Biederman told The Salt Lake Tribune last month. “It really has nothing to do, as I think anyone who has seen the pilot will tell you, with anything racy or trying to be exploitative.”
