Former WABC Weathercaster Heidi Jones Sentenced to 350 Hours of Community Service

Heidi Jones, the former WABC weathercaster who pleaded guilty to faking claims she was assaulted in Central Park, was sentenced today to 350 hours of community service in New York City.

The New York Daily News reports that Jones said in court she will “work extremely hard to pay back the city and the department through community service.”

“I just want to take a moment to express my sincere and profound apology to all who were involved — most importantly to the police department,” Jones said.

In December 2010, Jones — then a weathercaster at ABC owned-and-operated WABC in New York City — told police she was attacked by a Hispanic man while jogging in Central Park. She later admitted the claim was fabricated.
