Kentucky Station Commemorates 150th Anniversary of ‘Gettysburg Address’

A Kentucky TV Station is giving its viewers a bit of a history lesson on the 150th anniversary of President Abraham Lincoln‘s “Gettysburg Address.”

WLKY, the Louisville, KY, CBS affiliate, commemorated the event by enlisting its anchors and reporters for a promo where they read the 272 word address that was delivered a few months after the battle at Gettysburg to honor the dead and set the nation’s course for the rest of the war.

The speech was given at the dedication of the Soldier’s National Cemetery in Gettysburg, PA on November 19, 1863 and was initially met with a lukewarm reception. According to USA Today, The Chicago Times called it, a speech with “silly, flat and dish-watery utterances.”
