KGO News Director Kevin Keeshan Named Ombudsman for NBC O&Os

After 11 years as the news director at San Francisco ABC O&O KGO, Kevin Keeshan has left the station to become the ombudsman for the NBC O&Os.

In his new role, Keeshan will be responsible for “ensuring that the high standards for news gathering and reporting set by NBC News are applied consistently across all 10 NBC-owned stations,” according to an NBC statement on his hire.

The move reunites him with Valari Staab, who was the general manager of KGO before taking over as president of the NBC O&Os earlier this year.

Keeshan announced his departure to the KGO newsroom on Tuesday and left immediately thereafter, station sources say. KGO general manager William Burton has not responded to TVSpy’s request for comment; an ABC spokesperson declined to speak on the matter, saying the company does not discuss internal personnel issues with the press.

Keeshan will report directly to David McCormick, who has been NBC’s executive producer of broadcast standards and ombudsman since 1993.
