#BREAKING: Jury begins deliberations in #RodneyKing beating trial.
— Real Time LA Riots (@RealTimeLARiots) April 23, 2012
KNBC is currently covering the 1992 LA riots in real time, on Twitter.
The Los Angeles NBC station recently launched the Twitter account @RealTimeLARiots with the intention of taking followers through a blow-by-blow account of the Rodney King trial and the subsequent riots that rocked Southern California 20 years ago.
“With the 20th anniversary coming up, there is a ton of coverage out there, so we were looking for a unique way to tell the story–a compelling way that people couldn’t get anywhere else,” NBCLA.com content producer Olsen Ebright told Lost Remote.
“I’ve been a big fan of real-time Twitter accounts, such as WW2 (@RealTimeWWII) and the Titanic (@TitanicRealTime),” Ebright explained, “so we took our inspiration from them.”
So far, @RealTimeLARiots has been covering the trial of the LAPD officers charged with beating King, but news updates on the feed will change dramatically after April 29th, when the verdict was read.
