KNBC News Truck Goes Up in Flames

A KNBC news truck caught fire this morning while traveling down the 405 freeway outside of Los Angeles.

According to the station, photographer Joel Cooke was the only person in the vehicle at the time. He was returning from a story when the front of the truck caught fire. Luckily firefighters were able to extinguish the flames and Cooke escaped unharmed.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.

>Update: Here’s a statement from the station about the fire…

Late this morning, an NBC4 news van caught on fire on the 405 Freeway just north of the Getty Center.  The driver, one of our photographers who was returning from a story in Newport Beach, was the only person in the vehicle and was unharmed.  The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. While we regularly inspect our vehicles, we are taking precautionary measures to examine our entire truck and van fleet to further ensure their safety.   We are grateful to the Fire Department who responded quickly to extinguish the fire.  We are also comforted that no one was hurt in the during the incident and will work closely with officials as they investigate the cause.  The cause of the fire is unknown.
