KOLN Anchor John Fortney Returning to WTAP

John Fortney, the evening anchor at KOLN-KGIN in Lincoln, is returning to Parkersburg, WV to be the anchor and news director at WTAP.

Fortney began his television career at WTAP as the weeknight weatherman in 1998. He was named primary anchor at the NBC-affiliate in 1994, a post he held for two years before leaving in 1996 to join Ohio News Network.

“We are very pleased that John is coming back to WTAP,” Roger Sheppard, station vice president and general manager, said in a statement. “He worked very hard when he was here and did some great reporting. In the past 15 years, he has gained a breadth of experience which he brings back to help make our station even better.”

Fortney’s first day at the station will be December 5, and he will make his on-air debut in January.
