No Charges for Man Accused of Sending Threatening Tweet to Anchor

pierro_discepolo_croppedCharges have been dropped against a Florida man facing criminal charges for a tweet he sent to WPEC anchor John Discepolo.

Martin Pierro was facing charges of intimidation through a written threat to kill or injure for his tweet. He told supporters on “We Support Martin Pierro” facebook page he had spoken with his lawyer, “She informed me that the charges against me had been dropped. I was nothing short of ecstatic, I thanked her profu…sely and told her to make sure she billed me for the little bit of time it took her to call me (what was I thinking? – LOL).”

Pierro ran into trouble after responding to a tweet by the West Palm Beach CBS affiliate’s anchor promoting an upcoming story by writing, “Someone is hiding in your house waiting to kill you … find out where … tonight at 11.”

Discepolo didn’t think it was funny even after assurances by Pierro he was joking. Check out the tweet after the jump.

Here is the complete text of what Pierro said on facebook,

From Martin: “Yesterday I received a call from my attorney … trust me when a lawyer calls, your heart tends to sink a bit … so considering all that is going on it’s fair to say that I was worried. I asked her how she was doing, she said fine “but not as good as you”. I immediately knew what she was getting at – she told me that I was going to have a Merry Christmas after all. She informed me that the charges against me had been dropped. I was nothing short of ecstatic, I thanked her profu…sely and told her to make sure she billed me for the little bit of time it took her to call me (what was I thinking? – LOL). I had heard rumblings that the charges were going to be dropped, but this was the first official confirmation (she is sending the paperwork over). Finally I can put this matter behind me and focus on my friends, family and business.

Did the charges being dropped make up for the anguish and hardship my family has suffered these last few weeks? No. Did the charges being dropped make up for the embarrassment I felt being arrested in front of my home? No. Did the charges being dropped replace the money I have spent dealing with this matter? No. Do I feel any ill will towards Mr. Discepolo or Channel 12? No.

In a recent post Mr. Discepolo stated that there are two sides to every story … and this is true. We all see the world through our own filters and just because I can’t see things from his perspective doesn’t make him a bad person or someone to hate. This is Christmas time, a time for joy, understanding and forgiveness. Any anger I felt towards Mr. Discepolo has melted away, I see no reason to carry hate in my heart during this festive time of year and want to start the New Year off on a truly positive note. I sincerely hope that if Mr. Discepolo ever reads this … that he knows I wish him and his family nothing but the best and I hope that they have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I want to also take a moment to say thank you for all of the support I have received from my friends, family and complete strangers. Due to a warning from my attorney (actually from several attorneys) I have kept relatively quite about all of this, but trust me I have seen and heard everything that everyone has said and done and I am humbled by it. There are no words I can say or type that can possibly express my feelings – but know that I feel nothing but gratitude and appreciation in my heart.

All I can say now is Merry Christmas … “and so, as Tiny Tim observed, God bless Us, Every One!”

- Martin”
