Parents Television Council Asks NBC Affiliates Not to Air ‘The Playboy Club’

The Parents Television Council has sent letters to every NBC affiliate asking them not to air “The Playboy Club,” NBC’s racy new drama slated to premiere this fall.

In the letter, which was obtained by Broadcasting & Cable, Parents Television Council President Tim Winter said the show glamorizes the pornography industry. “I am writing to urge you, on behalf of the Parents Television Council’s 1.3 million members, to preempt the program in your community,” the letter reads.

KSL, the NBC affiliate in Salt Lake, announced last month that they will not air the show. That station is owned by Bonneville International, which is controlled by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Instead, the drama will air on KMYU, the MyNetwork affiliate in Salt Lake.

Parents Television Council  has criticized NBC for the series, which is set in Chicago’s Playboy Club in the 1960s, before. In April, the organization denounced NBC for reports that “Playboy Club” actors were required to sign a nudity clause.
