Tai Hernandez

Hernandez, a general assignment reporter, joined the station in 2010. Prior to working at WNYW, she spent several years at ABC News, where she was a correspondent for NewsOne and anchor of “World News Now” from 2005-07.

In a return to her old stomping grounds, Hernandez appeared this weekend on ABC’s “Good Morning America.” An ABC News spokesperson tells TVSpy she’s freelancing for the network.

First up is hosting a weekly public affairs show, In the Loop, for City Colleges of Chicago public station WYCC.  Interestingly, he’ll rotate anchor duties with another former ABC’er, reporter Barbara Pinto.

Also on the horizon: producing content via the newly-lunched Burcat Media Group, established with his wife Catherine Catalane, an anchor at Chicago’s WBBM-AM.

Another possibility is anchoring for a Windy City station. “That would be great,” Bury says. “Chicago is a great city where people still care about news. Most of the stations here are at least trying to do a solid job. It’s not the crap you see in Los Angeles or New York.”

Bury is a South Side native who worked in local news at KPRC in Houston, WTMJ in Milwaukee, and at St. Louis’ KTVI.

Josh Eure

Eure comes from ABC News, where he was a senior producer for “ABC News Now.” He has also spent time as a coordinating produce for “World News Now” and “Good Morning America.” Prior to that, Eure worked as an executive producer at WWOR in New York, WSB in Atlanta and WFOR in Miami.

Eure begins in Phoenix on November 5.

Yesterday, ABC News reported Scott, who jumped off a bridge in Los Angeles Harbor, had inoperable brain cancer. ABC has now retreated from that statement after additional reporting from Los Angeles ABC O&O KABC:

Both ABC News and the New York Daily News reported yesterday Holmes has been spitting at officers at the Arapahoe County Jail, and at one point was forced to wear a face guard. John Ferrugia, a longtime investigative reporter at KMGH, took to Twitter to offer a conflicting report from what he called a “knowledgeable source”:

“Good Afternoon America” will be hosted by Josh Elliott and Lara Spencer, with the rest of the “GMA” team making occasional appearances on the show, which will air at 2 p.m. ET.

As TVNewser notes, “GAA” will essentially serve as summer filler but, if it performs well, it has a shot at becoming a permanent part of the daytime schedule. continued…

“Based on preliminary information, the ABC Affiliates Association’s Board of Governors is concerned about ABC News’ proposed news partnership with Univision,” said Bill Hoffman, ABC affiliates board chairman, in a statement. “The network has broadly discussed this new venture with the board. ABC News president Ben Sherwood has officially announced the hire of two anchors from the local landscape: Ginger Zee (left) a meteorologist at WMAQ in Chicago, and Bazi Kanani, a weekend anchor and reporter at KUSA in Denver.

Zee’s move to ABC News was first reported by TimeOut Chicago’s Robert Feder in August. Her first day is Wednesday, and she will debut as the weekend weather anchor on “Good Morning America” on Saturday. She has been NBC owned-and-operated WMAQ since 2006.

Kanani joins ABC News after eight years at NBC-affiliate KUSA. She will be a digital journalist based in Nairobi, Kenya. She announced she was leaving the station last week but declined to say where, saying “the ink wasn’t dry yet” on her new contract.

Although ABC News has not yet confirmed Faris’ hire, the sports anchor told Feder she will leave WMAQ when her contract expires in December for a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

“Until my final day on the air at NBC 5, I promise to tell the untold stories and do my job to the very best of my ability,” Faris said.

Faris is the second WMAQ journalist to join ABC News in recent months. Weekend meteorologist Ginger Zee is reportedly joining “Good Morning America” next month. WMAQ’s morning anchor, Zoraida Sambolin, is also leaving the station, reportedly bound for CNN.
