Chuck Carter Named Managing Editor at WPIX

wpix logoChuck Carter is joining WPIX, Tribune’s CW affiliate in New York City, as managing editor. He begins April 28 and will report to news director Mark Effron.

“Chuck is a seasoned broadcast news executive with a proven record of delivering ratings growth. I’m thrilled he is joining our team as we continue to develop PIX11 News,” Effron said in a statement.

Carter joins WPIX from WTIC, Tribune’s Fox affiliate in Hartford. The move reunites him with general manager Rich Graziano, who joined WPIX from WTIC last year.

With the announcement of Carter’s hire, Amy Waldman and Sharon Van Zwieten are taking on new roles at WPIX. Waldman, who was named managing editor last year, will be the new senior executive producer for all newscasts. Van Zwieten, formerly the senior executive producer, will move into a news talent project management role, WPIX says.

WPIX Promotes Amy Waldman, Christian Taussig

WPIX has announced two promotions. Amy Waldman has been named managing editor and Christian Taussig has been named news operations manager at the New York City CW affiliate.

Waldman joined the station in 2007 as a senior producer. During her six years at WPIX, she has been executive producer of the morning newscast and, most recently, executive producer of special projects. Prior to joining WPIX, she worked at Court TV, CNBC and Fox News Channel.

Taussig, who will oversee all engineering and operations functions at WPIX, joined the station in 2000. Most recently, he was the engineer in charge of the 5 and 10 p.m. newscasts.

“Along with Rolando Pujol, who leads PIX11′s digital team, I’m confident we are geared for success on all platforms,” WPIX news director Mark Effron said in a statement. “This team, along with the News department, will write the next great chapter of PIX11′s storied news operation.”
