Christopher Sign Promoted to Weekday Morning Anchor at KNXV

KNXV weekend anchor Christopher Sign has been promoted to weekday morning anchor by the Phoenix ABC affiliate.

Anita Helt, KNXV VP & GM, tweeted out the news over the weekend.

KNXV morning meteorologist Iris Hermosillo wrote on her facebook page, “I’ve been lucky enough to build a genuine friendship with this guy over the past year and a half as we helped develop ABC15 Weekend Mornings. Now I’m beyond thrilled that we’ll get to continue working together each day as Christopher Sign ABC 15 also joins the ABC15 Morning crew M-F.” Read more

KNXV Names Patrick Costello News Director

Patrick Costello has been named news director for Phoenix ABC Affiliate KNXV.

“Pat’s background in award-winning journalism, his experience helping lead some of the nation’s best news organizations and his passion for great storytelling make him a perfect fit to lead our newsroom into the future,” said KNXV general manager Anita Helt.  “We know Arizona and ABC15 will benefit from his experience, his leadership and his deep commitment to community.”

Costello, who started his career as a news photographer, comes to KNXV from Seattle where  he was vice president and station manager for KING-KONG and NorthWest Cable News.  Previously, he was news director WBBM in Chicago and at KUTV in Salt Lake City.

Sportscaster Paul Calvisi Joins KNXV in Phoenix

Sportscaster Paul Calvisi has joined KNXV, the ABC-affiliate in Phoenix.

Calvisi is a local sports radio host and a member of the broadcasting team for the Arizona Cardinals. He will continue with both jobs and debut on KNXV later this week, the station said in a statement.

“As ABC15 set out to find a way to re-define sports in this market, we realized that we need to do something bold,” VP-GM Anita Helt said in a statement. “Paul’s penchant for being edgy, entertaining and informative makes him a great partner for sports director Craig Fouhy who has established himself as a trusted, smart and engaging voice in the sports community.”

Anita Helt Returns to Phoenix as KNXV VP-GM

Anita Helt, who has served as president and general manager of Sacramento’s KXTV since October, has been named vice president and general manager of KNXV in Phoenix.

Helt, 49, has considerable experience in the Phoenix market. Before joining Gannett’s KXTV last year, she worked for 15 years at the company’s NBC-affiliate KPNX, where most recently she served as vice president of marketing and programming.

“With her keen market insights and industry leadership, Anita will develop local news and programming that will continue to engage a growing numbers of viewers and advertisers alike,” said Brian Lawlor of Scripps, which owns KNXV.

Helt’s first day with the station is set for June 20th. She is replacing Janice Todd, who retired earlier this year after five years as VP-GM.
