‘Good Day L.A.’ Anchor Dances During News Headlines

4410015_GIn the immortal words of my very first news director, Mike Moran, at KJCT in Grand Junction: “always act as if the mic is hot.”

And in the studio, it’s wise to remember that every camera is pretty much always on. Those producers–those irritating, annoying producers–can take any camera at any time. Like, say, if you’re waiting at the weather wall while your fellow anchors read headlines, and, say, you pop in the earbuds and bust a few moves. Like that. That could get your camera popped up–and a moment of viral video perfection is born.

Here’s what we know: KTTV Los Angeles’ “Good Day L.A.” anchor Araksya Karapetyan has moves. Many, many moves. And they were put on display during GDLA on the Fox owned station Wednesday:

KTTV Swaps Anchors on ‘Good Day LA’

tellez_karapetyan Fresh off its experimentation with where Steve Edwards should sit during Good Day LA, KTTV in Los Angeles is now trying out Araksya Karapetyan in place of Marla Tellez on the FOX owned station’s morning show.

Tellez now co-anchors the 4:30 to 7:00 a.m. show. A station source assured TVSpy stations switch anchors up all the time and that “everybody” liked the new look.

While FOX first poo pooed the change as a rumor, our LA based eagle-eyed super fan who first told us about the swap asked Karapetyan if she liked the change. Karapetyan replied, “up for anything!” You can see a screen grab of the tweet after the jump. Read more

KTTV Investigative Producer Martin Burns Dies in Hiking Accident

Martin Burns, an investigative writer and producer at KTTV, died Sunday in an apparent hiking accident, according to the Los Angeles Fox O&O. He was 56.

Not a lot of details at this point, all we know right now is that he went for a hike, fell and that was it. In an instant, he was gone,” anchor Araksya Karapetyan (pictured with Burns) wrote on the KTTV website. “…Working with him was incredibly fulfilling — it’s what being a journalist is all about — going out there, digging, researching, doing something for the community, by uncovering abuses in the system and giving the voiceless a voice.”

“He made a personal difference in my professional  life every day,” vice president and news director Kingsley Smith wrote. “… He never complained and always worked with grace and dignity. He is on the short list of people that NO ONE ever complained about, ever. I will miss him. This newsroom will miss him. Our viewers will miss him.” [h/t Variety]
