Barrett Tryon Joins WDAF in Kansas City

Barrett Tryon has joined WDAF, the Fox affiliate in Kansas City.

Tryon moves to Kansas City from Colorado Springs. He was a reporter at ABC affiliate KRDO from March 2010 to July 2011. After leaving KRDO, he joined the Colorado Springs-Gazette, where he was placed on administrative leave in June after he refused to remove a post about the newspaper’s sale from his personal Facebook page. He was eventually reinstated at the newspaper but declined to return.

At WDAF, Tryon will be an interactive content producer and technology reporter.

Colorado Springs Reporter Reinstated at Gazette, But Says He’s ‘No Longer Interested’

Last week we told you about Barrett Tryon, a former KRDO reporter who was placed on administrative leave from the Colorado Springs Gazette after he refused to remove a post about the newspaper’s sale from his personal Facebook wall. Tryon’s fate at the newspaper is no longer a mystery, thanks to his Twitter feed:

Reporter Placed on Administrative Leave After Linking to Article About His Employer on Facebook

Barrett Tryon has been placed on administrative leave from the Colorado Springs Gazette after he refused to remove a post about the newspaper’s sale from his Facebook wall. Tryon is a former reporter for Colorado Springs ABC-affiliate KRDO.

Tryon, who has worked at the Gazette since April, was a reporter and digital content director at KRDO from 2010-11. After the sale of the Gazette and six other papers was announced earlier this week, Tryon linked to a Los Angeles Times article on his personal Facebook wall, highlighting a paragraph that said the new owner “hopes to spin off the smaller papers in separate deals.”

Tryon was contacted by the paper’s director of content, Carmen Boles, and told the post violated the company’s social media policy, which charges that employees must “protect the company’s goodwill, brands and business reputation.”  Read more
