After working as an intern at KWQC in college, Marsoun officially began her career at the station as a news editor in 2003. She worked as KWQC’s executive producer before she was promoted to news director in 2012.
Freedman called Marsoun a “beloved member of our team.” She will stay in her role until a successor is named, and possibly stay with the station beyond that: “It is both Beth’s intention and my goal to find an appropriate position, to be determined at a later date, in the KWQC news department once we transition to a new news director,” Freedman told TVSpy.
Smith moves to the Quad Cities from Traverse City, Mich., where she is currently the morning anchor at NBC affiliate WPBN.
“Melissa is a leader in and out of the newsroom. She is a strong journalist with a community based philosophy. She’ll fit right in with the KWQC family,” KWQC news director Beth Marsoun said in a statement. “Melissa has a kind way and bright personality.”
Marsoun has been serving as the station’s interim news director since March. Her appointment is effective immediately.
“Beth has distinguished herself as a strong leader of KWQC’s news department, winning the respect of those both inside and outside of the station,” KWQC VP-GM Kenneth Freedman said in a statement. “She has worked tirelessly to uphold the reputation of KWQC as the place those in Eastern Iowa and Western Illinois turn to keep informed, engaged and alert to the issues that affect them.”
