Jeff Vaughn Out, Jeff Goldblatt In at KENS

Just a week after saying goodbye to WMAQ in Chicago, Jeff Goldblatt has been announced as the new primary anchor at KENS in San Antonio.

“I’m very pleased to have someone of Jeff’s experience not only on the anchor desk but on the reporting front,” KENS president and general manager Bob McGann said in a statement. “He has tremendous experience covering national and international stories.”

Goldblatt replaces Jeff Vaughn, who was let go from the CBS-affiliate last week, according to the San Antonio Express-News.

“I was disappointed,” Vaughn said. “I’m sad I’m not going to do news there anymore … but I’m ready for the next chapter, and happy to spend time with my son.” Read more

Mat Garcia Joins KENS as Morning Anchor

KENS has hired Mat Garcia to replace longtime morning anchor Fred Lozano, who is set to retire after more than three decades on San Antonio TV.

“We conducted a nationwide search and we are pleased to bring a journalist of Mat’s caliber to join Sarah Forgany, Natalie Tejeda and Paul Mireles,” KENS president and general manager Bob McGann said, referring to the CBS-affiliate’s current morning roster.

A Texas native, Garcia comes to KENS from KOCO in Oklahoma City, where he spent three years as a morning anchor before being bumped off the show in April. Read more

In San Antonio, KENS Prepares for 4:30 a.m Start

San Antonio’s KENS is set to expand its morning newscast, giving anchors Vicki Buffolino and Bob McGann (left) an extra half-hour at 4:30 a.m.  Meteorologist Paul Mireles will be joining Buffolino and McGann for the weekday early bird shift.

The Belo-owned CBS-affiliate will now be offering the most local news of any station in its market, according to general manager Bob McGann.

“With this expansion, KENS Television broadcasts more local news than any other San Antonio station,” McGann boasted in announcing the move. “KENS Television is proud to offer this additional local broadcast serving our viewers.”
