Earthquake Shakes KWTV Morning Newscast

An earthquake shook the early morning newscast at KWTV, the CBS affiliate in Oklahoma City, Tuesday morning (video above).

Meteorologist Jed Castles was in the middle of his forecast when the earthquake rattled the studio. Although there was no visible shaking, anchor Bobbie Miller can be heard off camera saying, “We feel the lights shaking in the studio. We’re having an earthquake right now.”

The earthquake was one of several that struck central Oklahoma early Tuesday morning.

Oklahoma City Meteorologist’s Wife Surprises Him On-Air

KWTV meteorologist Jed Castles had a surprise guest during his “Bus Stop Forecast” segment. He tossed to a viewer question and the viewer was his wife Sharon. You can watch the video after the jump.

“That was my lovely wife Sharon,” Castles told viewers. “And I didn’t know she was going to do that. That was a rare treat. I got tricked by somebody.”

But the surprise quickly veered into adult territory when his co-anchor Stan Miller told him,”You married up, son. You married up.” Castles replied, “Did I ever. Boy what a blessing she is. Guys, good morning to you. Man! Whoo! Put a little chill up my spine. I’m ready to get home,” which was greeted with squeals off camera from co-anchor Bobbie Miller and a reply of, “Oh! A little frisky!” continued…

KWTV Anchor Robin Marsh Moving to Afternoons

After 12 years on the morning anchor desk for KWTV, Robin Marsh announced she will anchor the 4 pm. news for the Oklahoma City CBS affiliate beginning in January.

“No one is leaving News9 and we’re glad about that,” Marsh’s co-anchor Stan Miller said on this morning’s newscast. “But one of us is making a change and I know you’re wishing it was me. But it’s not.” Marsh then announced the change saying, “I’m so excited to share with you that starting in January, I will be joining Lauren Nelson on the four o’clock news here on News9.”

Marsh told viewers she jumped at the chance after Christina Eckert announced she was moving to Texas. Marsh said she wanted to spend more time with her family and take her son to school.

“You’re going to miss us so bad.” protested Miller.” He then told viewers, “She’ll be back.” You can watch the video of the announcement after the jump. continued…

Rebranding as ‘Freedom 43,’ Oklahoma City’s KAUT Targets Conservative Viewers

Oklahoma City’s KAUT is undergoing an aggressive rebranding effort to appeal to the more than 50,000 active and reserve military personnel in Oklahoma. Next month, KAUT (channel 43), a MyNetworkTV-affiliate which airs a two-hour morning newscast in addition to a half-hour nightly newscast at 9 p.m., will relaunch as “Freedom 43.”

“For the first, a TV station is aiming its news focus not at a particular demographic, age group, or gender,” boasts Jim Boyer, KAUT’s president and general manager, “but at an audience bound by social connections and shared values.”

“Freedom 43 TV is for all Oklahomans who believe in faith, freedom, and patriotism,” Boyer said, in announcing the brand makeover.

KAUT’s new identity appears to be in line with that of Fox News, with programming based on a specific worldview and meant to draw a conservative audience. continued…
