Bill Berra Named News Director at WFLA

bill berraBill Berra has been named VP of news for Tampa NBC affiliate WFLA.

Berra left his position as VP of news for Journal Broadcasting and Milwaukee NBC affiliate WTMJ in early February.

“I’m delighted to welcome a news veteran of Bill’s caliber to WFLA,” said station GM Brad Moses. “He has a strong record of success increasing ratings and audience share at a number of television stations across the country. Importantly, he knows the Tampa market well, having worked in this market in recent years.”

Berra came to WTMJ from WFTS in Tampa. He’s also worked at WSYX in Columbus, OH, WKMG in Orlando, KSAZ in Phoenix, AZ, and KTVI in St. Louis, MO, and WREG in Memphis, TN.

He will start at WFLA on March 17.

WFLA Launches Market’s First 4:00 PM News

WFLA, Media General’s Tampa NBC affiliate, has announced it will be the first Tampa station to air a 4:00 p.m. newscast.

“The addition of a 4 p.m. newscast reflects the strength of our 8 On Your Side brand in serving the people in Tampa Bay and surrounding counties,” said WFLA president and general manager Brad Moses in a statement.

The hour long show will debut on Monday, August 26 and will be anchored by Stacie Schaible.

Jerry Penacoli Named Co-Host of WFLA’s ‘Daytime’

Jerry Penacoli has been named co-host of “Daytime,” WFLA‘s nationally syndicated show.

Penacoli has been a correspondent on “Extra” for 13 seasons. He has also been a host for E! Entertainment Television, an anchor for KYW in Philadelphia and a host and producer to WTVJ in Miami. His career began at WJKS in Jacksonville, where he was an anchor and general assignment reporter.

“I am very pleased to announce the addition of Jerry Penacoli to ‘Daytime,’ ” WFLA president and general manager Brad Moses said in a statement. “Our long standing relationship with ‘Extra’ and his frequent visits to guest host made him a staff and viewer favorite.”

“Daytime” airs in more than 130 markets across the country.

Brad Moses Named President-GM of Tampa’s WFLA

Media General has named Brad Moses president and general manager of WFLA, the NBC-affiliate in Tampa. His appointment is effective March 26.

The move is a return to WFLA for Moses, who was director of marketing at the station from 2002-07. He joins WFLA from another Media General station, WNCN in Raleigh, where he has been vice president and general manager since 2009.

Moses replaces John Cottingham, who was named interim general manager of the station in November after Media General made several management changes at WFLA.

“I am pleased to bring such a talented broadcast professional back to our Tampa station,” Cottingham said in a statement. “His leadership abilities and his knowledge of the Tampa community will be very valuable to our customers and employees.”

Andrea Parquet-Taylor Returns to Raleigh to Lead WNCN’s Newsroom

Andrea Parquet-Taylor has been tapped to lead the news department at Raleigh’s WNCN. Parquet-Taylor is a veteran of the market, having previously worked as news director for rival station WRAL.

“Andrea is a strategic thinker who has successfully built news operations, developed award-winning investigative teams and built strong breaking news and severe weather coverage systems,” said WNCN vice president and general manager Brad Moses in announcing the move. “She has a passion for journalism and understands it is important to produce great storytelling in a multiple-platform environment.  We’re excited to have her lead our news operation.”

Parquet-Taylor comes to the NBC-affiliate from Houston’s KHOU, where she recently worked as assistant news director. After her previous stop in Raleigh, she served as news director of WXYZ in Detroit.

Her first day will be May 2nd.
