News Director Cameryn Beck Joining KTVK From KOVR

Cameryn Beck is leaving KOVR-KMAX to join KTVK in Phoenix as news director, Rick Gevers & Associates reports.

Beck has been news director at the CBS duopoly in Sacramento since she was promoted from executive producer in 2008. She has previously worked for KCRA, the NBC affiliate in Sacramento.

At KTVK, Belo’s independent station in Phoenix, Beck replaces Brad Remington, who announced last fall he is moving to Denver to be closer to his wife.

Dennis Welch Joins KTVK as Political Editor

KTVK, the independent station in Phoenix, has hired Dennis Welch as political editor, TVNewsCheck reports. He will begin June 1.

Welch will oversee the station’s political coverage and co-host “Politics Unplugged,” the station’s political affairs show. He joins KTVK from the Arizona Guardian, where he was owner and editor. He has been a frequent guest on “Politics Unplugged” for the past several years.

Beverly Kidd To Leave KTVK Later This Month

Beverly Kidd announced this weekend she will be leaving KTVK later this month after 10 years with the station (watch above).

“I won’t bury the lead,” news director Brad Remington wrote in a memo to KTVK staffers. “Beverly Kidd has come to us and told us she needs to step away from the business and focus on her new husband and their three children.” continued…

KTVK Launching 10 p.m. Newscast, Focusing on Reaching Out to Viewers Through Social Media

KTVK, the Belo-owned independent station in Phoenix, is adding an additional half-hour daily newscast at 10 p.m beginning August 22. The 10 p.m. news will use social networks, such as Twitter and Facebook, to generate story ideas and get viewer feedback.

The 30-minute show, anchored by Carey Pena (pictured) and Fields Moseley, brings KTVK’s news coverage up to nine hours a day. The show’s interactive format hopes to capitalize on Pena’s nearly 10,000 Twitter followers and her recent ranking as the “Most Influential Tweeter in Phoenix.”

“The newscast will be local and engaging with some viewer-generated content,” KTVK executive news director Brad Remington said in a press release. “The format will be flexible, focused on hard news, attempting to look at not only what is happening but why.”

Moseley joins KTVK this month from KUTV in Salt Lake City. Meteorologist Royal Norman and sports anchor Tim Ring will also contribute to the 10 p.m. broadcast.
