News Director Out at Sacramento FOX Affiliate

Brandon Mercer, news director for the Tribune owned Sacramento FOX affiliate KTXL, is no longer with the station.

Mercer wrote on his twitter feed, “Leaving one opportunity for another. Just need to figure out what it will be. I will always love @FOX40, the most amazing staff and GM.” He has also updated his facebook profile as “Former News Director at KTXL.”

Mercer started his career at KTTV in Los Angeles. He’s also worked at KOLD in Tucson, KPHO in Phoenix and former cable channel TechTV in San Francisco. He was an executive producer at KOVR in Sacramento before coming to KTXL.

One of the media blogs reporting Mercer’s resignation is The Desk, which edited by Matthew Keys. Keys is the former KTXL web producer who has plead not guilty to charges he helped the group Anonymous hack into the Tribune websites.

Tia Ewing Promoted to Weekend Anchor at KTXL

After just three months as a general assignment reporter at KTXL, Tia Ewing has been promoted to weekend anchor at the Sacramento Fox affiliate.

“Tia has this huge personality, and she’s a natural leader in the newsroom,” KTXL news director Brandon Mercer told the Sacramento Bee. “It became obvious that she was perfect for this role after she presented me with her ideas for creating an even faster-paced newscast, putting an even stronger emphasis on owning local breaking news. That’s what she does.”

Ewing replaces Teri Cox, who left KTXL in July after 25 years at the station.
