George Takata Shifting From Sports to News at Fresno’s KSEE-KGPE

KGPE sports director George Takata is shifting from sports to news as he joins sister station KSEE, the Fresno Bee reports. Beginning Thursday, Takata will be the NBC affiliate’s morning co-anchor.

“Tune in for his debut, along with our new weather person Heidi Waggoner, our HD launch, AND our brand new set…all on Oct. 31!” co-anchor Carina Corral wrote on Facebook. “…this is going to be F-U-N!”

Takata has been the weeknight sports anchor at KGPE, which Nexstar recently combined with KSEE, since 1997. Watch his goodbye video after the jump. Read more

Kathy Kuretich Promoted to Morning Co-Anchor at KSBY

Kathy Kuretich has been promoted to morning co-anchor at KSBY, the NBC affiliate in San Luis Obispo.

Kuretich will begin in her new role on April 1 after she returns from maternity leave, joining Richard Gearhart and Dan Shadwell on the morning newscast. She replaces Carina Corral, who left KSBY for KSEE in December.

“We are incredibly excited to have Kathy join the Daybreak team,” news director Doug Barden said in a statement. “She’s one of those versatile news anchors that I know will work hard every day to bring the most up to the minute news stories to our viewers.”

Kuretich joined KSBY in April 2011 and was promoted to weekend evening anchor in February 2012.

Andrea Fujii has joined KCBS in Los Angeles as a freelance reporter. Previously, Fujii was a reporter and fill-in anchor at WJZ in Baltimore.

After three years as a reporter and fill-in anchor at KOCO in Oklahoma City, Carla Wade joins WFAA in Dallas as a weekend evening anchor and reporter.

Shelley Walcott joins WMUR in Manchester from WTMJ in Milwaukee. At WMUR, Walcott will be the primary anchor.

Jeff Vaughn returns to Detroit, joining WXYZ as an auto and business reporter as well as anchor of the 5 p.m. newscast. Vaughn comes from San Antonio, where he was the primary anchor at KENS.

Miami native Sheldon Fox returns to his hometown, joining WSVN as a general assignment reporter. Fox was previously the weekend evening anchor and crime reporter for WGNO in New Orleans. Read more
