ABC Unveils iPhone Alarm Clock App for Stations

Now, when ABC O&Os tell viewers to “wake up with us,” they won’t necessarily be referring to watching their morning newscasts.

ABC is now rolling out an iPhone alarm clock app for its station group, beginning today with KTRK in Houston. In addition to serving as an alarm clock, the free app features local weather and news, and also offers users the ability to wake up to the voice of their favorite local news personality.

Viewers in Houston can now wake up to the voices of KTRK’s morning team, including Tom Koch, Sharron Melton, Casey Curry, Don Nelson, as well as the station’s breaking news music. continued…

Tom Davis Promoted to News Director at WPVI

Longtime assistant news director Tom Davis has been named vice president and news director at WPVI.

Davis, who has been the ABC O&O’s assistant ND since 2004, takes over for Carla Carpenter. After 14 years leading the WPVI newsroom, Carpenter recently left the station to become senior vice president of digital media for ABC owned stations.

“Tom’s promotion is well deserved,” WPVI president and general manager Bernie Prazenica said, in announcing the move. “He has distinguished himself as a top flight news manager over two decades, and is uniquely qualified to lead Action News into the future on television, online, and on all mobile platforms.” continued…

Carla Carpenter Named SVP of Digital Media at ABC Owned Stations

Carla Carpenter has been promoted to senior vice president of digital media at the ABC owned-and-operated stations.

Carpenter has been vice president and news director of WPVI, ABC’s O&O in Philadelphia, since 1997. In her new role, she will oversee development of strategies and initiatives involving the internet, digital channels and mobile platforms for the eight ABC owned stations.

“This promotion clearly recognizes Carla’s tremendous talents, vision and track record,” Rebecca Campbell, president of the ABC owned stations, said in a statement. “At the same time, it also reflects the cornerstone commitment our eight stations share in providing the best news and information product across all platforms.”
