Chief Meteorologist Gene Norman Out at KHOU

After four years as chief meteorologist at KHOU, Gene Norman has parted ways with the Houston CBS affiliate.

General manager Susan McEldoon told the Houston Chronicle in an email that Norman “left KHOU TV to pursue new opportunities in weather forecasting and meteorology.” Norman was on the air an hour before the statement was made, the Chronicle reports.

McEldoon said David Paul will take over on the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts on a temporary basis. Chita Johnson and Mario Gomez will also contribute.

Chita Johnson to Mornings, David Paul to Afternoons at Houston’s KHOU

Changes are coming to the weather team at KHOU, the CBS-affiliate in Houston, media blogger Mike McGuff reports.

Chita Johnson, currently the noon and 4 p.m. meteorologist, moves to the morning newscast, where she will work alongside co-anchors Lily Jang and Ron Trevino. The current morning meteorologist, David Paul, will move to the 4 and 5 p.m. newscasts.

Gene Norman will still handle the 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts, and Mario Gomez will continue as the weekend meteorologist. A station spokesperson told McGuff the changes go into effect on September 3.

Anne Craig joins WTNH in New Haven, CT as weekend anchor and reporter, from reporter at WNYW in New York.

Lucy Noland joins KNBC in Los Angeles, anchoring the station’s midday and 5 p.m. newscasts during the week.

Ken Barlow becomes a weeknight meteorologist at KSTP in Minneapolis-St. Paul, from KXTV in Sacramento.

KHOU Launches 4 p.m. Newscast, Officially Replacing Oprah in Houston

Two months after Oprah ended her syndicated daytime show, KHOU — the CBS affiliate in Houston — becomes the latest station to fill her former time slot with news.

Starting today, Len Cannon will anchor a half-hour newscast at 4 p.m. Cannon will be joined by meteorologist Chita Johnson, who joins KHOU from KRCR in Redding, CA. Cannon will also continue to anchor the 6 p.m. news for KHOU.

KHOU has been airing reruns of Oprah’s daytime talk show since her depature in May. Cannon and Johnson have been appearing in promo videos (like the one above) for the 4 p.m. newscast, which will lead in to viewer favorite “Jeopardy” at 4:30 p.m.

Meteorologist Chita Johnson joins KHOU. Johnson comes to Houston from KRCR in Redding, CA where she was the morning meteorologist for the past four years.

Leigh Dana moves from reporter at WBNG in Binghamton, NY to reporter at WBBH in Fort Myers, FL.

Kristine Leahy joins Boston Fox O&O WFXT as a sports anchor-reporter. Most recently, Leahy worked as an in-arena host and web reporter for the Boston Celtics.

Irika Sargent joins Post-Newsweek’s KPRC, an NBC-affiliate. Sargent comes to Houston by way of NBC-affiliate WPMI in Mobile.

Sargent is represented by Mort Meisner Associates.
