Cleveland Stations Report on Rescue of Missing Ohio Women

Three Ohio women who went missing between 2000 and 2004 were found at a house in Cleveland Monday evening, prompting local stations to devote primetime programming to the breaking news.

WOIO‘s Ed Gallek was the first to report the news during the 6 p.m. newscast, at 6:23 p.m. Ramona Robinson and Denise Dufala anchored coverage for the CBS affiliate, which partially preempted “Evening News with Scott Pelley” for local coverage. Tiffany Tucker reported from the scene for WOIO.

NBC affiliate WKYC and Fox affiliate WJW both reported the news during their respective 7 p.m. newscasts. Robin Swoboda and Jim Donovan anchored on WKYC, which was first at 7 p.m. sharp, and Bill Martin anchored for WJW, which was next at 7:07 p.m.

ABC affiliate WEWS broke into “Let’s Ask America” with the news at 7:18 p.m. Chris Flanagan anchored, with Stephanie Ramirez and John Kosich, who nabbed one of the notable interviews of the night, reporting from the scene.

Leon Bibb No Longer Anchoring WEWS 6 p.m. News

Leon Bibb is no longer the anchor of the WEWS 6 p.m. newscast, the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports.

Bibb joined the Cleveland ABC-affiliate in 1995 and has been co-anchor of the 6 p.m. newscast since 2010. He will continue to anchor the station’s noon newscast, as well as its Sunday morning show, “Kaleidoscope.” He will also take over two new programs, “Leon Bibb’s Ohio” and “Leon Bibb’s Perspective.”

“Leon is still a very vital part of what we have here,” WEWS vice president and general manager Sam Rosenwasser told the Plain-Dealer. “We want to put a spotlight on what he has.” Read more

Amanda Grace has been promoted to anchor of WHDH’s weeknight 4, 4:30, and 5 p.m. newscasts.  Grace joined the Sunbeam-owned station in 2008 as a general assignment reporter.

Chris Flanagan heads to Cleveland to anchor WEWS’s 11 p.m. weeknight newscasts.  Flanagan joins WEWS from WFAA in Dallas, where he worked as a morning anchor.

Alicia Roberts joins Cleveland’s WEWS as the morning traffic anchor and MMJ.  Roberts spent five years in a similar capacity at WFLA in Tampa.

Ama Daetz moves home to the Bay Area to anchor weekends for KGO in San Francisco.  Most recently, Daetz anchored mornings for KTXL in Sacramento. Read more

Joe Girvan joins WPTV in West Palm Beach as weekend sports anchor. He was most recently the sports director for Gainesville Television Network in Gainesville, FL.

Jonathan Carter takes over as evening anchor at KCTV-KSMO in Kansas City.

Meteorologist Greg Armbrecht moves to weekends at WITN in Greenville, NC.

WTKR meteorologist Vanessa Murdock will become the weekend evening meteorologist at WCBS in New York City. Read more
