KTLA Anchor Lampooned for Reaction to Earthquake Gets in on the Joke

oscar picKTLA anchor Chris Schauble laughed off the attention he’s been getting over the last 24 hours after his reaction to yesterday’s 4.4 earthquake went viral.

“Has anything interesting happened in the last 24 hours?” Schauble asked at the top of the Los Angeles CW affiliate’s 5:00 a.m. show.

The station filled the morning show with the latest tweets, memes and videos lampooning the anchor’s emergency response.

Here’s a meme with him as one of The Supremes.Bi-uagjCEAEMsEV

His co-anchors pointed out the existence of #EarthquakeFace on twitter and a dance remix of his reaction. You can watch the remix after the jump. Read more

‘I Got Punked!’ KTLA Meteorologist Tricked into Saying Naughty Name On-Air

KTLA meteorologist Henry DiCarlo fell victim to what’s becoming a common prank suffered upon local stations reading birthday wishes on-air. Pranksters have picked up on the practice and send in names that look real on paper, but when said aloud can push FCC obscenity rules.

This time, after DiCarlo wished “Hugh Janus” a happy birthday, an alert Chris Schauble couldn’t hold back his laughter alerting the news team something was amiss. After much discussion and giggling Schauble told DiCarlo, “Uh, I think it’s one of those trick names and you fell for it.”

“I got punked. I basically got punked,” said DiCarlo. “Hopefully there’s not a ten-year-old, really, with that name out there.”

Chris Schauble Under Fire After Open-Mic Remark on KTLA’s Morning Newscast

The National Hispanic Media Coalition is demanding an apology from KTLA anchor Chris Schauble after an on-air comment he made during the morning newscast last week.

The comments in question were during a segment spotlighting the El Coyote Mexican Cafe in Los Angeles. Reporter Allie Mac Kay, who was live from the restaurant, noted that some of the restaurant’s employees have worked there for more than 30 years:

Mac Kay: It’s a total family atmosphere, right?

Restaurant Manager: Right. That’s what keeps us all together, because it’s such a family, we know each other. We know their sons, their daughters, their parents, we go to their weddings, their baptismals, we share all our good times together…

Schauble (off camera, from the anchor desk): …bond hearings…  Read more

VIDEO: Hooters Girls Join KTLA Morning Newscast

KTLA invited a couple of Hooters girls to be a part of the station’s morning newscast on Wednesday.

Meteorologist Henry DiCarlo introduced the girls, who are set to compete in a local swimsuit competition, during the 6 o’clock hour, as anchors Megan Henderson and Chris Schauble snacked on wings from the restaurant. Later in the show, the girls stripped down to their swimsuits and joined weathercaster Mark Kriski as he promoted their competition.

This isn’t the first time KTLA has invited scantily clad women onto its morning show. During February sweeps, the station had lingerie models on to accompany DiCarlo for a weather update.

VIDEO: Anchor Shows Up Late for Morning Newscast

KTLA began its morning show on Thursday without one of its anchors.

Megan Henderson was conspicuously absent from the opening seconds of KTLA’s 4:00 a.m. newscast, leading co-anchor Chris Schauble to impersonate her until she arrived in the studio.

Henderson explained that someone had screwed up and told her “two minutes, ten seconds ago.”  It was an excuse that Schauble and meteorologist Henry DiCarlo weren’t totally buying (video above).

VIDEO: KTLA’s Henry DiCarlo Throws A Fit When There’s Not Enough Time For His Forecast

Weather is clearly important to KTLA meteorologist Henry DiCarlo, so when something else cuts in to his allotted forecast time, he’s probably going to be upset.

“When you send a weatherman out to do the weather, but you’re also sending him to do a story, you might want to give him a little extra time,” DiCarlo said testily upon finding out there wasn’t time for the forecast (watch above). “But that’s just me.”

“Did Henry DiCarlo just have a fit on live TV?” Chris Schauble asked his co-anchor, Megan Henderson. Read more

Using the Infamous Shake Weight, KTLA Morning Team Proves It’s Never Too Early for Sex Jokes

In an apparent effort to rid the world of future Shake Weight jokes by cramming as many as possible into its morning newscast, KTLA ran two segments about the new-ish fitness device last Friday, reveling in the suggestive motion that the motorized barbell makes.

With the 6 o’clock hour’s second segment, the crew’s jokes became more and more bawdy. At one point, weathercaster Mark Kriski asked reporter Allie MacKay, “I’ve got a small, white one, does that make a difference?” Without missing a beat, MacKay shot back, “I don’t think it’s the size of it, it’s actually the technique” (video above).

While Chris Schauble, who recently joined KTLA, enthusiastically used a Shake Weight at the anchor desk, his co-anchor Megan Henderson couldn’t be coaxed into making the device’s up-and-down motion, predicting (correctly) that the segments would quickly land them on YouTube. First segment inside… Read more

Chris Schauble Joining KTLA Mornings as Frank Buckley Scales Back

Anchor Frank Buckley (right) is scaling back his hours on KTLA‘s morning newscast and Chris Schauble (far right), most recently an anchor-reporter with KNBC, is taking his place in the early half of the show.

“Starting next Monday, I’ll no longer be anchoring the 5-7am hours of the KTLA Morning News and a new guy will be in the anchor chair,” Buckley announced in a blog post today on KTLA’s website. “I was asked to fill in on the 5 and 6am broadcasts on a temporary basis after the departure of our friend Emmett Miller in October. We thought it would last a month or two. It’s now March.”

Buckley will continue appearing on the newscast between 7 and 10 a.m.

Schauble has been anchoring KNBC’s weekend evening newscasts and working as a reporter throughout the week. Read more
