Carolyn Johnson Joins KNBC in Los Angeles

carolyn johnsonCarolyn Johnson is joining KNBC, the NBC-owned station in Los Angeles, in June. Johnson comes from KGO, the ABC-owned station in San Francisco, where she has worked since 2007.

“Carolyn is an excellent journalist whose passion for journalism is seen through her exceptional story-telling abilities,” KNBC vice president of news Todd Mokhtari said in a statement. “Carolyn grew up in Southern California and now she is returning home to join the most talented and respected journalists in the market at NBC4.”

In her new role, Johnson will co-anchor the noon newscast alongside Whit Johnson and the 6 p.m. newscast alongside Chuck Henry.

Los Angeles Stations Go Live for Endeavour Arrival

As the space shuttle Endeavour made its final flight around Los Angeles Friday afternoon, every major station in the region was carrying live coverage of its arrival.

KNBC anchors Michael Brownlee and Kathy Vara began anchoring coverage just before 9:30amPT. They were joined by Colleen Williams at Griffith Observatory, John Cadiz Klemack in Palmdale, Sean Murphy at the Santa Monica Pier, Ted Chen at Edwards Air Force Base, Toni Guinyard and Chuck Henry at LAX, Patrick Healy at the Nasa Propulsion Center and Antonio Castelan in El Segundo.

KTTV had several anchors participating: Phil Shuman, Carlos Amezcua, Araksya Karapetyan, Lisa Breckenridge and Jeff Michael. Meteorologist Maria Quiban and Pablo Pereira handled the weather reports, and reporters were live across Los Angeles, including Bob DeCastro and Gigi Graciette at LAX, Mar Yvette at a restaurant near LAX and Gina Silva at Griffith Observatory. KNBC Mistakes Sacramento Kings for Los Angeles Kings, Team Calls Out Station on Twitter

Los Angeles currently has three professional sports teams playing in the postseason but, according to a recent KNBC graphic (above), the city only has two.

During KNBC’s 6 p.m. newscast on Monday, as anchor Chuck Henry introduced a story about the Lakers and Clippers competing in the NBA playoffs and the Los Angeles Kings playing in the NHL postseason, the station ran a graphic that included the logo of the Sacramento Kings, instead of the LA Kings.
