WLNY Launches Weekend Evening Newscast

wlny-logo2WLNY, the CBS-owned independent station serving the New York City market, is launching a weekend edition of its 9 p.m. newscast. Beginning July 12, the hourlong newscast will be anchored by Cindy Hsu with meteorologist Elise Finch and sports anchor Steve Overmyer.

“WLNY’s 9 p.m. newscast addresses viewers’ needs to have their local news at an earlier time in the evening and the newly expanded broadcast will now allow audiences to do that on the weekend as well,” David Friend, the senior vice president of news for CBS Television Stations and the news director for WCBS-WLNY, said in a statement.

Hsu currently anchors the weekend evening newscasts on sister station WCBS, where she has worked since 1993.

Meteorologist Vanessa Murdock Joins WCBS

Vanessa Murdock is the newest addition to CBS owned-and-operated WCBS in New York City. She joins the station next Monday as weekend morning meteorologist and weekday reporter.

Murdock joins WCBS from WTKR, the CBS-affiliate in Norfolk, where she has been forecasting the weather since 2006. Murdock, a Long Island native, is also an adjunct instructor of meteorology at Virginia Wesleyan College.

“We are pleased to welcome Vanessa back to New York,” WCBS news director David Friend said in a statement.  “Vanessa is an outstanding meteorologist, both on air and as a college instructor and we look forward to having her join Don Dahler and Cindy Hsu on our weekend morning news team.”

Don Dahler Will Shift to Weekends at WCBS Following Chris Wragge’s Return

Don Dahler, who was displaced from the WCBS 6 p.m. broadcast this week when Chris Wragge returned to the station after nine months on “The Early Show,” will continue as the morning and evening weekend anchor at the CBS owned-and-operated station.

“We are very pleased to have reached an agreement with Don that will keep him at CBS 2,” president and general manager Peter Dunn said in a statement. “We look forward to having him continue to play an important role for us.”

Beginning this weekend, Dahler will be paired with Cindy Hsu to anchor the station’s weekend morning newscasts. He will anchor the weekend evening newscasts solo, and he will also contribute to the weekday newscasts as a reporter.
