Courtney Friel Gets Asked Out Live on KTLA

While doing man-on-the-street interviews near a California wildfire yesterday, KTLA‘s Courtney Friel interviewed a man who turned the tables and started asking her the questions. “Wow. You’re super pretty,” the shirtless man said to Friel. “Do you want to go on a date sometime?”

Friel, who is married to CBS News correspondent Carter Evans, politely informed the man that she was live on the air for KTLA and steered the conversation back to the fire. Watch:

KTLA Hires Five, Including Courtney Friel and Jillian Barberie

KTLA news director Jason Ball has announced five new hires, our sister site FishbowlLA reports. Courtney Friel (pictured), Jillian Barberie, Steve Kuzj, Kimberly Cheng and Olsen Ebright are all joining the Los Angeles CW affiliate.

Friel and Barberie both most recently worked at rival KTTV, the Fox O&O in Los Angeles. Friel, an entertainment reporter, signed off in February after her contract was not renewed. Barberie, a co-anchor of “Good Day LA,” left KTTV in September.

FishbowlLA reports that Barberie will host an entertainment news program, “The Hollywood Mix,” which will debut in June. Friel will contribute as an anchor and reporter.

Kuzj and Cheng both come from KNXV, the ABC affiliate in Phoenix. Ebright comes from rival KNBC, where he has been the social media lead and content producer since 2007.

Carter Evans Named CBS News Correspondent

Carter Evans has been named a Los Angeles-based correspondent at CBS News, TVNewser reports.

Evans has been working as a freelance correspondent for the network and for KCBS, the CBS O&O in Los Angeles, in recent months. Earlier this month, he was caught in the crossfire of the Christopher Dorner shootout in Big Bear.

In a memo to staffers announcing the news, CBS News president David Rhodes cited Evans’ reporting on the Dorner story, noting “he always seems to be working when no one else is around.”

Evans is married to former KTTV entertainment reporter Courtney Friel.

Courtney Friel Out at KTTV in Los Angeles

Entertainment reporter Courtney Friel is leaving KTTV, the Fox O&O in Los Angeles. A station spokesperson told TVSpy that Friel’s contract was not renewed.

Friel joined KTTV in 2011 after four years as a New York bureau reporter at Fox News Channel.

Anchor Carlos Amezcua told viewers of her departure last night on KTTV’s 10 p.m. newscast, an announcement that seemed to surprise even Friel.

“Well, tomorrow is my last day here at Fox 11,” Friel said. “I didn’t know we were making that announcement, but I guess we are. I am leaving, unfortunately. But I’ll be around, so don’t worry.”

Friel is married to CBS reporter Carter Evans, who was caught in the crossfire of the Christopher Dorner shootout while reporting from Big Bear earlier this week.

Fox News Channel’s Courtney Friel Joining KTTV

Courtney Friel, an entertainment reporter at Fox News Channel, is joining KTTV in Los Angeles next month.

TVNewser reports that Friel will be covering entertainment for Fox owned-and-operated KTTV and other local stations. She will continue to contribute to FNC, which she joined as a New York bureau reporter in 2007.

Friel’s husband, Carter Evans, will also be leaving his job, as a business correspondent for affiliate-service CNN Newsource, for the West Coast.

Friel will join former Fox News colleague Lauren Sivan, who started at KTTV in September, in Los Angeles.
