With former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney accepting the Republican Presidential nomination tonight, Boston TV stations have stepped up their coverage

Many big market anchors and reporters are covering the RNC, but Romney’s ties to Massachusetts makes it especially relevant to Boston TV. Reports the Boston Herald:

“Locally, it’s a big story. Obviously, Mitt Romney, being a former governor, is a big story at the RNC for us,” said Channel 4 news director John Verrilli. And Gov. Deval Patrick and U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren, Verrilli added, are slated to have big roles at the DNC. “I looked at it from the perspective of it being an important national and local story – and thought that it was definitely important to go,” Verrilli said.

Last presidential election cycle WBZ was absent from the conventions, this time political analyst Jon Keller has been doing live reports for the 5, 6 and 11 p.m. newscasts as well as taped pieces for the morning and noon shows.

The rest of the stations have followed suit with ABC affiliate WCVB‘s Janet Wu, Alison King from regional network NECN, Dan Hausle reporting for NBC affiliate WHDH and Sharman Sacchetti from FOX affiliate WFXT either reporting live or sending back taped pieces for the days newscasts.
