Sportscaster Scott Smith Joins WTTG From KPHO

Sports anchor Scott Smith is joining WTTG, the Fox O&O in Washington, DC.

Smith joins the station from KPHO in Phoenix, where he has been a sports anchor and reporter since 2009. He will anchor sports for WTTG’s 10 and 11 p.m. newscasts.

“I’m extremely humbled and honored to join the FOX 5 sports team. Not only is it an amazing opportunity at a top-notch station, but it’s an exciting time to dive into the DC sports scene,” Smith said in a statement.

Smith replaces Dave Feldman, who left WTTG in May for Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.

Dave Feldman Joins Comcast SportsNet Bay Area

Dave Feldman, who left WTTG in May after 12 years at the station, is joining Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.

Feldman, a Bay area native, was the sports director for WTTG, the Fox O&O in Washington, DC. At Comcast SportsNet, he will be an anchor and reporter for the San Francisco 49ers programming, in addition to working on various other pre-and post-game shows.

“He has deep local roots and has established himself as one of the most accomplished and versatile sportscasters in the business today,” Comcast SportsNet Bay Area VP-GM Ted Griggs said in a statement. “His experience and array of skills will further enhance the depth of our roster of talented anchors and reporters. I am confident that viewers will appreciate the knowledge and enthusiasm he brings to the network.”

Sports Director Dave Feldman Leaving WTTG

After 12 years at WTTG, sports director Dave Feldman is leaving the Washington, DC Fox O&O. His last day will be May 30.

“Dave has an incredible work ethic and will be remembered for the quality sports coverage he delivered to WTTG viewers for the last 12 years,” WTTG vice president and news director Phil Metlin told TVSpy. “We wish him the best of luck in his new job; he will be missed.”

Feldman, a California native, began his career at KCBS radio in San Francisco. His first job in television was at KTIV in Sioux City, IA. He has also worked at Orange County News Channel and ESPN. Read more

WTTG’s Maureen Umeh Says Redskins Could Have Beaten Patriots If Tom Brady ‘Fell Out Dead’

Maureen Umeh, an anchor at Fox owned-and-operated WTTG in Washington, DC, said this weekend that the only way for the Redskins to beat the New England Patriots in their Sunday NFL matchup was if Patriots quarterback Tom Brady “fell out dead” (video above).

The comment itself was followed up with a very quick “just kidding” from Umeh, but when sports director Dave Feldman jumped in to clarify, the exchange started to get awkward.

“Wouldn’t it be better if he was just injured, but not dead?” Feldman asked. Read more
