WHIO Meteorologist Hospitalized After Crash, Facing Charges

xenia_twp_axJamie Simpson, chief meteorologist at Dayton CBS affiliate WHIO, is hospitalized and facing criminal charges after a single vehicle accident Thursday. According to the station, the anchor’s car crashed through a fence and struck a tree just after 1:20 p.m. Simpson faces a charge of operating a vehicle while under the influence:

No one else was in the car or was injured.

Formal charges have not been filed, but Simpson was ticketed at the scene before he was transported to the hospital.

“We are waiting for more details from the accident investigation, but our main concern right now is Jamie’s health,” said David Bennallack, Senior Managing Director of Content for Cox Media Group – Ohio. “Due to his condition we expect that it will be a few days before we can talk with Jamie in detail about what happened.”

WHIO Promotes Sean Dunster to News Director

seandunsterSean Dunster has been named news director for Dayton CBS affiliate WHIO.

Dunster had been the news technology manager for WHIO since July 2012. Before coming to WHIO in 2012, Dunster was news director for KECI-KCFW-KTVM in Montana. He has also worked as assistant news director at KTVM in Butte-Bozeman, MT, and executive producer , special projects for WCPO in Cincinnati.

Dunster told TVSpy former news director David Bennallack now oversees the station’s collective platforms as senior managing director of content.

Kate Bartley, John Bedell Named WHIO Weekend Anchors

kate bartley john bedell whioKate Bartley and John Bedell have been promoted at WHIO, Cox Media Group’s CBS affiliate in Dayton.

In their new roles, Bartley will be the station’s weekend evening anchor and Bedell will be the weekend morning and noon anchor. Bartley, who joined the station in 2009, has most recently been a general assignment reporter and anchor of the noon newscast on Sunday. Bedell has been a general assignment reporter since he joined the station in 2010.

“The promotions of Kate Bartley and John Bedell exemplify the strength of our News Center 7 team,” David Bennallack, senior managing director of content for Cox Media Group Ohio, said in a statement. “Kate and John are both positive forces in our newsroom and in our community, and have deep Ohio roots. We’re very excited to have them in these key positions.”
