KCPQ’s ‘Washington’s Most Wanted’ Captures 400th Fugitive

KCPQ‘s “Washington’s Most Wanted” celebrated a major milestone this week: the show has now helped local law enforcement capture 400 fugitives. A viewer tip led to the 400th capture on Wednesday.

“Thanks to KCPQ for their leadership and thanks for the diligent teamwork of people in the state of Washington to put 400 people away, get them off the streets, that’s a good thing for the state of Washington. Congratulations to everyone involved,” Washington governor Jay Inslee said in a statement.

“Washington’s Most Wanted” host David Rose was there for the 400th arrest (pictured). KCPQ will broadcast a special edition of the show Friday with a look back at significant captures.

“In light of Lifetime cancelling America’s Most Wanted with John Walsh, it’s more important than ever for stations to air local programming that helps serve communities and make them safer,” Rose told TVSpy. “There are more bad guys than ever and the fact we’ve reached 400 captures in four years is evidence of that. Washington’s Most Wanted airs in 5 television markets and includes local content from each of those cities.”

Watch KCPQ’s segment on the 400th capture after the jump. continued…

KCPQ Anchor David Rose: ‘News is a two-way conversation now’

KCPQ anchor David Rose is celebrating the fourth anniversary of “Washington’s Most Wanted,” which he produces and hosts on the Seattle Fox affiliate. Since its launch, the show has helped police capture more than 330 fugitives (like this one). Rose talks to The Fearey Group’s “Re-inventing PR” blog about how social media has changed his job in the years since the show debuted:

Information moves much more quickly now than it ever has. Social media is one of the most important aspects of my job. I manage two Twitter accounts and three Facebook pages in addition to providing content to www.Q13Fox.com and www.catchwmw.com. When I have a big story break, more often than not, I do it through social media first. Many of the tips I get on breaking news stories come from followers on Facebook and Twitter which allows me to communicate with them to get photos, video or additional information. News is a two-way conversation now which is wonderful.

Report on KCPQ Leads To Arrest Of Murder Suspect

Police in Des Moines arrested a suspect yesterday in the murder of 19-year old Jayme Thomas after a “Washington’s Most Wanted” viewer came forward with additional information.

“Washington’s Most Wanted” is hosted by David Rose (pictured), an anchor at KCPQ in Seattle, and airs on six stations in Washington and Oregon. The show has featured the unsolved murder of Thomas, who was shot in the back of the head on November 5, for the past several weeks.

After seeing one of the reports, a viewer recognized one of his co-workers, identified as a “person of interest” in the case. The viewer convinced the co-worker to contact police, and police say his or her cooperation — including providing additional information on other witnesses — led to the arrest. continued…

Morning Anchor Scott Sams Out at Dallas’s KTVT

Scott Sams, who has been co-anchoring KTVT‘s weekday morning newscast since 2007, has been let go by the Dallas CBS-affiliate.

KTVT decided not to renew Sams’s contract, according to Dallas media reporter Ed Bark. The station plans to name his replacement shortly.

This is the second time that Sams has unceremoniously departed a Dallas station. He spent nearly two decades with ABC-affiliate WFAA before being cut in 2004. Sams sued WFAA for wrongful termination and eventually received a $660,000 settlement.

Sources tell Bark that KTVT has an interview scheduled with David Rose of KCPQ, a Fox-affiliate in Seattle.
