Derek Francis, who announced he was leaving his job as morning anchor at Grand Rapids ABC affiliate WZZM back in May, has joined cross-town rival WXMI–just a matter of months after he said he was leaving TV news to work in public relations. “I took a brief step away from the industry, by choice, and my time away gave me an even greater appreciation for it and FOX 17,” Francis told the Grand Rapids Press.

Francis worked at WZZM for eleven years until he announced his departure with an on-air farewell.

Meteorologist Hally Vogel Leaving Grand Rapids for Detroit’s WXYZ

Meteorologist Hally Vogel is jumping up in the market ranks, moving from Grand Rapids to Detroit. Vogel, who has been with Grand Rapids ABC-affiliate WZZM for the past seven years, is set to join Detroit’s WXYZ next month.

“I am thrilled about the opportunity to move closer to my family in the Detroit area,” Vogel said, “but sad to leave so many friends and great people that I’ve gotten to know during my time here in Grand Rapids.”

Vogel currently appears on WZZM’s morning newscast alongside anchors Derek Francis and Lauren Stanton. Her last day with the station is set for May 31st.

“Hally has been an integral part of our morning team and weather team,” said WZZM president and general manager Janet Mason. “We will really miss her and wish her much success in Detroit.”
