WFOR Taps Jim DeFede for Sunday Morning Show

WFOR investigative reporter Jim DeFede has been tapped to host a Sunday morning show on the Miami CBS O&O.

“Facing South Florida with Jim DeFede,” which launched last week and will broadcast live beginning this Sunday, replaces “News and Views with Eliott Rodriguez.” It airs at 11:30 a.m. and features interviews with politicians and community leaders.

“We are going to try and make it not just informative but also entertaining — a radical concept for Sunday morning,” DeFede told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

DeFede joined WFOR in 2006 as a regular commentator on the evening newscast after a long career in print journalism.

WFOR Anchor Joins the Cast of ‘CSI: Miami’

Cue The Who theme music: veteran WFOR anchor Eliott Rodriguez has joined the cast of “CSI: Miami” (well, sort of).

Rodriguez recently filmed an episode of the hit CBS show in which he plays a TV anchor.  In the scene, which was filmed at the WFOR studios, Rodriguez does a special report about the escape of a dangerous federal prisoner in downtown Miami.

Rodriguez tells TVSpy that the shoot was just like “another day at the office in Miami.” Read more

Veteran Eliott Rodriguez Reclaims Weeknight Anchor Seat as WFOR Shuffles On-Air Roster

Miami’s WFOR is shuffling its on-air roster and Eliott Rodriguez (left), who has been with the CBS O&O for over a decade, is reclaiming his former spot at the weekday evening anchor desk.

WFOR announced today that Rodriguez would replace Antonio Mora as Shannon Hori‘s co-anchor for the station’s 5 and 11 p.m. newscasts.  Rodriguez had served as WFOR’s main anchor until 2008, when he was replaced by Mora, who jumped to WFOR from Chicago’s WBBM. Since then, he has been working the station’s noon and 5:30 p.m. newscasts.

Mora will now anchor the 6 p.m. newscast solo as Hori will team with Rodriguez from 5 to 6 p.m., in addition to 11.  Cynthia Demos, who had been anchoring 5:30 p.m. as well as the 10 p.m. newscast on sister station WBFS, will now focus exclusively on the 10 p.m. show.

“These new assignments will maximize the strengths of each of our anchors,” said Adam Levy, WFOR’s vice president and general manager, in making the announcement. “We look forward to having Eliott, Shannon, Antonio and Cynthia continue to play major roles for us.”
