New Orleans TV Icon Frank Davis Dies

Frank Davis, New Orleans TV icon for CBS affiliate WWL has died.

For more than 30 years, Davis brought his morning show cooking segments, his “Fishin’ Game Report” and his “Naturally N’Awlins” features to New Orleans viewers.

In May this year, Davis revealed to viewers he was suffering from a rare autoimmune disease called Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy which robbed him of the use of his arms and legs. He retired from the station in 2011.

“Thank God in heaven that I’ve got that happy personality, that I can see something bad and smile about it,” he told WWL medical reporter Meg Farris about his CIDP diagnosis in a May interview. “Believe me, I don’t want to smile about it because it bothers me. It’s a roller coaster ride. I’m good one day. I’m bad one day.” Read more

“I want to concentrate on the culture of fishing and hunting here,” he said. “It’s very much a part of our ingrained heritage and culture down here.”

Dubuc will make his WWL debut tomorrow. He will be joined for his first report on the 6 p.m. newscast by the reporter he is replacing: Frank Davis, who retired from WWL last year.

Frank Davis Retires From WWL In New Orleans

After 30 years as the lifestyle correspondent for WWL, the CBS-affiliate in New Orleans, Frank Davis announced his retirement yesterday.

WWL news director Bill Siegel told the New Orleans Times-Picayune that Davis, who specializes in fishing and cooking, would continue to contribute to the morning show and to the station’s website.

“Frank is a wonderful person to be around,” Siegel said. “He’s a unique and creative guy, and generous enough to share his retirement with us and the viewers.” Read more
