Jennifer Zeppelin Named Chief Meteorologist at KTUL

KTUL has named a new chief meteorologist to replace Frank Mitchell, who retired earlier this week. Jennifer Zeppelin will step into the role at the Tulsa ABC affiliate, making her Tulsa’s first female chief meteorologist.

Zeppelin has been a freelance meteorologist at KTUL for the past nine months. She made the move to Tulsa earlier this year after her husband accepted a job at the Oklahoma State University Foundation. Prior to that, she worked at KCNC in Denver as the morning and noon meteorologist.

“In the last few months [Zeppelin] has shown all of us that she not only loves what she does, but also is serious about protecting our viewers from severe weather,” KTUL general manager Pat Baldwin said in a statement. “We believe Oklahomans will welcome her on board wholeheartedly.”

On the Heels of Frank Mitchell’s Retirement, KTUL Shakes Up Weather Team

On Frank Mitchell‘s last day as chief meteorologist, KTUL has announced some changes to its team of weathercasters.

Andrew Kozak (pictured left), who has been freelancing for the Tulsa ABC affiliate, has been named KTUL’s morning meteorologist. He replaces Mike Collier (pictured right), who is moving to weekend evenings.

“It’s time to throw away the alarm clock,” Collier wrote on Facebook. “You are in great hands with Meteorologist Andrew Kozak!”

No word yet on how the new schedule will affect Jennifer Zeppelin, who is the current weekend evening meteorologist. In a statement, KTUL said a new chief meteorologist “will be named later this month.” The station has yet to respond to TVSpy’s request for comment.

Chief Meteorologist Frank Mitchell Leaving KTUL

Frank Mitchell, the chief meteorologist at Tulsa ABC-affiliate KTUL, has announced that he is leaving the station next month for a job as a financial adviser.

“As anyone that works evenings can tell you, it can be hard to take on that shift with a family at home,” Mitchell said in a statement. “I really look forward to being more involved with my kids’ activities, maybe even coaching a little baseball.”

Mitchell was hired as a weekend meteorologist by KTUL in the early 1990s. He will sign off from the station on September 18.
