Support Growing for Fired Rookie Anchor A.J. Clemente

The now famous KFYR anchor, A.J. Clemente, who was fired on his first day on-air when his first words were “fucking shit,” might find his career still has some life in it after all.

After the Bismarck, ND NBC affiliate posted an apology for Clemente’s outburst on its facebook page, a majority of commenters asked the station not to fire him. One wrote, “I think we’re all adults and are quite capable of getting over it. It’s a non-issue.” While another said, “This kid is probably torturing himself over what happened. Go easy on him, as we all make mistakes.”

Clemente was also a hot topic on the network morning news show circuit, which seemed to see the funnier side of the profanity issue.

On NBC’s “Today” show, Matt Lauer asked the assembled anchor team if Clemente should be given a second chance. Ryan Seacrest, who was on set said, “I think we could relate to possibly being in a situation close to this. So, maybe he deserves a second chance.” Al Roker, who told mediabistroTV in February his philosophy is “don’t be a jerk” and credited his first big break to a similar situation, agreed saying, “I think he should (get a second chance). You know, (he’s) a young guy. Obviously, he didn’t mean anything by it. It was an accident.” continued…

WFSB Remembers Famous Alum Gayle King

WFSB took a look back at Gayle King‘s tenure at the station this weekend, honoring the former Connecticut anchor as she prepares to take over CBS’s revamped morning show.

“Even though it has been a dozen years since Gayle left the big 3, she remains in the hearts of many of us here, and definitely in the hearts of viewers across our state,” WFSB’s Dennis House, who anchored alongside King in the 90s, wrote on his blog.

King worked at WFSB, a CBS-affiliate, from 1981 to 1999. The station dug through the archives for a segment that aired during House’s Sunday morning show, “Face the State.” Video inside… continued…

Chris Wragge on WCBS: ‘I’m Going to Do Whatever the Hell They Want Me to Do’

Chris Wragge is recommitting his time to WCBS, following a year hosting “The Early Show,” and he says he’ll do whatever GM Peter Dunn and news director David Friend ask of him.

“It’s up to Peter and David. I am strictly at their mercy,” Wragge told FishbowlNY on Tuesday, talking about his return to WCBS where Maurice DuBois is now top anchor. “I’m just going to do whatever the hell they want me to do.”

Wragge has been co-anchoring WCBS’s 6 p.m. newscast since the beginning of September, in addition to appearing on “The Early Show,” but his role on the morning show will significantly decrease January 9th as Charlie Rose and Gayle King take over.

Wragge says he plans to come back to “The Early Show” at some point, though: “I’m being benched for a little while, but there is a second half.” Read more at FishbowlNY

Chris Wragge Rejoins WCBS Full-Time, As CBS Again Overhauls ‘The Early Show’

With Charlie Rose and Gayle King set to take over on CBS’ “The Early Show,” Chris Wragge will officially return to WCBS full-time.

Wragge made the move to “The Early Show” from WCBS last December in the last major talent overhaul at the CBS News morning show. In August, it was announced that Wragge would return to the CBS owned-and-operated station as the 6 p.m. anchor.

“CBS has been my home since 2004 and will be for the foreseeable future in whatever capacity they want,” Wragge told the New York Times. “I am loyal and grateful to CBS.”

An official announcement is expected Tuesday, according to TVNewser. Read more at TVNewser
